Be Part of Our Video Campaign
We’re inviting learners (Year 9+) and teachers to join this year’s Democracy Ambassadors Programme, with a brand new focus for 2025–2027: helping to create a video campaign that promotes voting rights for young people in Wales. These videos will be shared across Cardiff to raise awareness ahead of the Senedd elections in 2026 and Local Government elections in 2027.
Schools can participate in the video production, giving pupils the chance to share their voices and ideas about democracy. You can also request a visit from our team, who will come to your school to talk about the Democracy Ambassadors Programme and inspire your pupils to get involved.
Your school’s involvement will help raise awareness among young voters in Cardiff, providing your pupils with an opportunity to make a real impact.

Exclusive Opportunities: 2025-2026
We are delighted to offer even more opportunities for pupils to engage in enriching democratic learning experiences this academic year.
Please note: spaces are limited, all slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To secure your preferred slots, we highly recommend booking early.

Organise a husting at your school (by The Politics Project)
The Hustings Support Programme, organised by The Politics Project, offers free expert training, materials, educational resources (on the Election, Welsh Democracy, and Voter Registration), as well as ongoing ad hoc support. This initiative is designed to help schools, colleges, and teachers deliver fun, engaging election education by organising their own hustings. Our aim is to help as many young people as possible feel informed, prepared, and confident about participating in the election.
For many young people aged 16 and over, this will be their first time voting. While the elections may seem distant, it’s the perfect time to start preparing.
Hustings are a powerful and practical way to bring the election to life and help learners explore democracy in action. Our goal is for every young person to have the opportunity to attend a hustings.
This form does not commit you to anything but helps the Politics Project understand interest levels and ensures you receive updates, including details about our first training session or potential hustings organised by other schools/colleges in your constituency.
Resources
A set of 3 lessons, exploring the concept: ‘Our votes impact on who has power, and who has power impacts upon us’. We have collaborated with the Electoral Commission and the Cardiff Curriculum Team, to create these lessons that are specifically suited to learners in Cardiff.
The Right to vote
Explore genuine examples of historic and modern-day events where people fought for their right to vote/voice to be heard. An opportunity to hold discussions to help learners understand why having a vote is important to protect human rights, the power their vote has in helping to put people in powerful positions, who will then make laws that will impact upon everyone.
Who has power?
Explore the various powers held by
Cardiff Council, Senedd Cymru and UK Parliament. Includes exercises for learners to reflect on the impacts these powers have on their day-to-day life.
Voter Apathy
Explore the issue of Voter Apathy amongst
young people in Wales. Includes exercises to get your learners to think of ways to tackle this.
This lesson may be a good brainstorming session for your ambassadors to come up with their own campaign to
engage their peers with democracy.
